Fiorgue, Mataró-Barcelona International Organ Festival “Jaume Isern”
(7–16 July 2018)
Fiorgue has gained a reputation as one of the most important European musical events dedicated to this instrument, thanks to its top-quality billing, which brings nationally and internationally renowned artists to Mataró in early July. It is led by Raúl Prieto Ramírez, one of the best organists in the world and the official organist at the city’s Santa Maria Basilica.
Fiorgue was founded in 2012 with two main objectives. The first was to highlight Mataró’s cultural and musical heritage, symbolised by Santa Maria Basilica’s monumental organ, the biggest in Catalonia, in terms of both number of tubes and the size of its keyboards. The other was to offer a quality programme with prestigious artists, thus putting the city on the international musical map and turning it into a cultural tourism destination.
