Did you know that King Charles of Austria came to Mataró to meet the woman who would become his wife, Elisabeth Christine of Brunswick? The princess arrived in the city on 25 July 1708, during Mataró’s main festival, and grand celebrations were held with fireworks, dancing and music. However, Elisabeth’s first night in Mataró turned into a nightmare because of the mosquitoes, which bit her so badly that the next day she did not feel able even to receive the man who was to become her future husband. Discover the history of Mataró through anecdotes and readings while strolling through its streets, buildings and squares and enjoying some of its most distinctive corners.
