Mataró is notable for having more than a hundred hypogea, underground structures dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries, excavated in sauló and traditionally used for food storage. These spaces are complemented beneath the city by air-raid shelters and archaeological remains, whose guided tours require advance registration and have limited places for conservation reasons.
A guided tour led by members of the Senior Citizens’ Historical Memory Committee to discover the city’s hypogea, shelters and crypts.
