Peace Route

Mataró’s Historical Past

Tour of the Civil War remains preserved in the city, led by Manel Martín, a member of the Mataró Senior Citizens’ Historical Memory Committee.

How did the city of Mataró experience the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War? How was the defence of the coast organised? What consequences did the outcome of the conflict have for the civilian population? And how did the atrocities caused by the wars of the 20th century lead to greater awareness of human rights and their universal recognition?

Through a tour along Mataró’s seafront, led by Manel Martín, a member of the Mataró Senior Citizens’ Historical Memory Committee, we will discover the remains of the Civil War that are still preserved in the city and reflect on the consequences of war and the value of human rights.
